Inside Multicultural Marketing: My Time at Nativa

Going into my senior year at Arizona State University, I knew that I needed an internship, one that would truly make a difference in my academic and professional journey. As a double major in Business (Global Politics) and Arabic Studies, I wanted experience in marketing because I knew that later in my career I want to focus on consulting work in either international business development or marketing. I saw Nativa as the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on marketing campaigns centered around multiculturalism.

Spending time as a multicultural marketing intern at Nativa has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic journey. From day one, I was immersed in an environment that values cultural insight, strategic thinking, and authentic storytelling. Rather than feeling like “just an intern,” I was trusted to contribute to real projects and marketing campaigns that made a meaningful impact.

One of the most valuable aspects of my experience was learning how multicultural marketing goes beyond simple translation. At Nativa, I saw firsthand how understanding cultural nuances, community values, and lived experiences shapes effective campaigns. I also gained hands-on experience analyzing focus group data on Vitalant’s donor experiences and turning those findings into clear, actionable insights that were easy to understand and apply. Whether analyzing audience data or helping brainstorm campaign ideas, I learned how important it is to approach marketing with both empathy and intention.

I also had the opportunity to work on a number of marketing campaigns, including projects for Desert Financial Credit Union, Schwarzkopf, and Vitalant, which connected directly to real communities and made the work feel meaningful. Collaborating with my team helped me build stronger communication and research skills, and I gained confidence in presenting ideas and thinking critically about marketing strategies.

Overall, my time at Nativa helped me grow both professionally and personally. I walked away with a deeper understanding of multicultural audiences, hands on experience in marketing strategy, and a clearer vision of the kind of work I want to pursue in the future. Thank you to everyone at Nativa for making this internship one to remember.
